Lets Make a Deal Dearie by Eveningarwen Lets Make a Deal Dearie by Eveningarwen
Some fun at the LOJ Ball in Los Angeles! We went as Rumpelstiltskin from Once Upon a Time and as Galadriel from LOTR. Unfortunately I had a cold this past week so I had no time to work on my own costume as much as I would have liked and even had to rush some things on our Rumpel costume that we have been working super hard on on and off for quite some time now. But overall I think we looked pretty good and we had a good time! I'm amazed I was able to get them together at all when the only time I had to work on them was at night or on the weekend between orders. Love the Masque and can't wait for next year already!

Really nice costume, you did a good job dearie. By the way, are you male or female? The last Rumple I saw on here was female, so just checking before I start to flirt with you. ;) j/k

Ah good, and I was just being silly about flirting with him! I think anyone dressed like Rumple would get my attention, lol, hopefully I can go to Comic-Con next year. But you did a great costume for Rumple! My friend is going to try and dress up as him and I am going to play Belle if we are able to go.

Lol Thank you! I haven't really seen to much cosplay of this character which makes me both sad and glad lol. Glad that he's not overdone but sad that not as many want to cosplay him because he's such a brilliant character.

LOJ Ball? What's that? I might be interested in going next year. Hmm... I'm thinking that except for the makeup, you did a bang up job with your costume. For the next time, get some pale foundation and golden body glitter. He has a sickly pallor about him, but he also needs to sparkle.

While the makeup isn't perfect because we were trying to just get out of the apartment, since this is the second time that the makeup seems to have some how made all of our hard work absolutely not worth it I'd just like to point out what our references were for everyone.

His makeup drastically varies from episode to episode. We went as far as to even texture his face in latex to give that nasty flaky/pebbly skin texture that he has. Unfortunately the lighting in that venue does not allow us to get the most perfect caption of what his makeup looked like in person. The character does not sparkle at all. Especially in a glitter sense. He has elements of gold that is somewhat metallic in his skin but not that much. In the poster of him yes he's very gold and warm and glowy looking because they over saturated the photo to be extreme from the others. But in the show he is very grey, green and sometimes a dark natural skin tone underneath. He's also very mottled slightly. Again, his makeup is drastic in every episode so while one interpretation of the makeup is accurate another interpretation can be just as accurate. No one is perfect on their first go but I fully believe that our makeup was pretty damn spot on. And it's a bit frustrating for others to comment on something that implies that we did a horrible job on the makeup when I know for a fact we did not.

Also this is the website to the labyrinth ball:

It's definitely worth going! I personally find it better then any convention you could possibly go to. I've been to SDCC twice now and both times I've been pretty underwhelmed. But at LOJ I wish it would go on for so much longer then it does.

I've been to Genericon twice, Anime USA 2011, and a couple of smaller neighborhood anime cons. I've been dreaming of going to either NYCC or SDCC since 2011, and possibly LOJ since I started being a Labyrinth fan, which was roughly 5 years ago (right when I was around Sarah's age, i.e. 14; I placed her at 14/15 upon the first view.)

You're right. he doesn't "sparkle" so much as "luster" He goes from being very pale and grey, almost sick to death looking, to almost healthy, albeit gold, looking in between as few as two episodes. And Mr. Carlyle himself commented on how hard it was to apply, in addition to the costume. (Hair, makeup and costume takes at least an hour and a half to put on. The boots are tough enough on their own!) Wonderful job.

I think it has to do with the timing of the episodes. When he's more "human" looking it's when he was first turned. Then as he lives longer as the Dark One he slowly becomes less human and that's where the grey and green tint come in from. With the contacts and everything they're definitely going for a reptilian look. As far as the coloring goes we will probably stay with what we have but when we do our studio shots of him we're going to not do the color aspect of the makeup quite as heavy. We wanted more of the skin tone to come through that the grey overpowered a bit. But like in one of the photos above where it's "dark" outside around him with a lot of blue lighting his makeup comes off as very grey. I think the issue with doing makeup for this character is it depends on where you are shooting the photos with how much the makeup works. Most of his makeup also seems to vary depending on where they are shooting scenes. Outside in the daylight he is much more golden looking where as when it's kind of grey and gloomy outside he becomes more of that grey green. I have no idea if that was intentional or not but that's how it seems.

The time of day, and the place, where he looks sexiest? Night with only the moon, or some sparse source of fire, illuminating his pallidly lustrous features, his face a mask of impish glee. You feel a shiver of fear go up your spine as well as a few twinges of recognition as you realize that he's there, knowing just where to pop up so that he can catch you off guard, even when you're ready for him. The only thing that's missing is him, floating off of the ground in a "lying down on your stomach" position, legs crossed and one arm waving lazily downward as if he was dipping his fingers in a river. :blushes: That last bit is in jest, but can't you just see him doing that, and maybe doing little aerial barrel rolls, grinning like a Cheshire cat?

Hey, I AM NOT a member of Rumpelstiltskin's fangirl harem, which would span the Atlantic it's so wide now. I'm just commenting on when I think he looks his best.
